Milky Way News Center: The Milky Way Initiative Announces First Expedition February 1, 2210 Following the successful launch of the Nexus by the Andromeda Initiative, the Milky Way Initiative announced today it’s plan to launch its first expedition. The expedition is to explore and map the Yithian Expanse, a cluster observed to be between the Crescent and Eagle Nebulas, and the infamous Nemean Abyss. Despite numerous attempts to get permission to open the relay and explore the region, funding has failed to advocate for such an exploration, or the Council has stepped in previously to prevent the relay from opening. However, since the MWI’s goals are to safely explore these regions, the Council has authorized surveying the cluster using the ODSY drive. The Initiative intends to launch the expedition sometime next year. This has come following their successful rescue of the passengers and crew of the Navigator, a shuttle vessel that was lost in an accident while it was in relay transit. The rescue, not only being able to travel a distance that would have taken years for even some of the fastest FTL vessels on their own, also proved the capabilities and reliability of the ODSY drive. No additional details on the expedition have yet been released. Stay tuned to the Milky Way News Center for more details on the expedition in the following months.
